Vertical Telar

In Mexico the waist loom originates in pre-Hispanic times.  It is known as a two-bar loom, or stick loom.

It consists of a set of wooden bars of the same size,  a rope and a band or mecapal to hold the loom to the weaver.

With the waist loom you can make strips, backpacks, quechquemitl, huipiles, tangles, napkins, sarapes, gabans, cotones and rebozos.
